roger was born in 1981 in a small, lovely town named Thun in front of the Mayjestic Swiss Alps. After finishing primary and secondary school, he was gratified with an SIA prize for his workbook as an architecture drawer in 2001. after some years collecting practical time in a few offices as a drawer, he went through an intensive photoassistant internship with hasselblad master gian paul lozza, zürich. with a lot of experience in action, editorial, and portrait shootings for many photographers in his bag, he started working as a freelance photographer focused on snowboard, portrait, and editorial photography. roger traveled the world in his early years for some snowboard photography with brands like zimtstern or movie productions like pirates movie production and absinthe. thanks to all the different kinds of shootings, assistant jops, and practice, he developed and sharpened his eyes for framing, composition, contrast, and lines. for his snowboard photoreportage "die drei zielstrebigen mädchen," he got published in the annual book "15.Nachwuchsförderpreis 2011" and won the award for upcoming new photography talent.

in 2013, roger started building and raising a small company named SQWER to do external projects as a freelance drawer and photographer. together with a friend, he worked on several projects, from building applications to execution planning. five years later, in 2018, SQWER moved into a new atelier and office, and roger finally decided to start studying architecture at the BFH fachhochschule in burgdorf. he graduated in 2022 with a bachelor of arts in architecture as one of the best out of many students. roger gets 2nd for the "prix ancier student," an annual price for architecture students focused on steel structure buildings.
for all of his study projects, his background as a photographer was very helpful and useful in developing a different view of architecture. thanks to his trained eyes to watch and focus on the very elementary parts of a picture, he is able to combine photography and architecture. these two areas complement each other perfectly.
roger met his professor for architecture and structure, Peter Berger, architect and partner of theohotz architekten, zürich. peter saw the potential in creating new ideas and pictures. for Peter's book "bauen mit stahl," roger could develop and execute the idea of overlaying perspectives. steel structure and its surroundings in one shot. no postproduction or double exposures. for the book, he captured nine different steel objects and structures all over Switzerland. the found place in an outstanding photo essay over 20 pages in the 2022 published book "bauen mit stahl, eine geschichte des schweizer stahlbaus."
roger is now open for freelance work in
